Hello,

I do not know whether I have autism, but I've always exhibited the following traits:

1) Twitching my lips, jaws, and thighs, sometimes my feet.

2) Not into socializing. Introverted to an extreme degree, almost a hermit.Undecided

3) Often been called rude, snotty and all that because of my apparently uncaring attitude.

4) Have OCD and ADD; stick to routine, do repetitive stuff.

5) I obsess over one thing like a madman, only to lose interest and then obsess over still another thing. And so forth.

6) Another peculiar thing is, even strangers somehow instantly recognize me as a quiet person without knowing a thing about me.Huh I wonder how that could be. Although I 'look' normal, people give me this peculiar look as if I were an alien.

7) however, unlike most autistic people, I am not good at math or science. I am basically into arts, literature, and all that.

What does everyone think? I feel wary going to a doctor....

Hi,

Welcome.
I will respond to you in reverse then random order. !
The doctor is likely only to refer you to a specalist. UNLESS its really affecting your life I vote for not getting an official diagnosis. But thats a very open topic here.
7- People on Autistic Spectrum can be very artistic and creative. Many famous artists and composers may have had Aspergers.
4- If you have OCD and ADD then chances are you are somewhere on the Autistic Spectrum already. I am not a scientist but I have observed many people with Ausism also having an OCD or ADD type thing as well. I am sure they are all linked.
5 - YES. This is a very good clue!.. So far if I was the doctor I would say that its now more than probable that you have some form of Autism. BUT remember I am just a geek with aspergers.

You do not say how old you are. Can you remember what you were like when you were a young child, when did you learn to read/write? What were your favourite play things when you were a child? Did you prefer playing outside with friends or doing your own thing?

I was in my early 30's when I started to learn about Aspergers. Looking back I can see many many signs I has aspergers.
Knowing I have it has changed by view of how I am. I am now proud to have aspergers not worried because I was not fitting in with people around me.

Do some more research, read more about aspergers here and elsewhere on web.
Someone else please can you post the link to the Aspergers Test, Its called something like AS quotient - if anyone knows what I mean can they post it here. I remember doing it some years back.
