Hello everyone my name is Donna. I am 36 and live in Bradford Westyorkshire with my partner Gary whos 35, DD Bethany whos 8 and my son Thomas whos 6 in a couple of weeks. Thomas has been seeing the community peadiatrition since he was 3 re autistic traits. Baically she first called him a mixed bag as he wasnt text book autism but has traits. His fine motor skills are behind his peers and hes also very immature. She sees him every 6 months incase its a developmental delay but hes not better now than he was then. The clinical physcolgist observed him at school 2 months ago and next week we have a follow up meeting with both of them at last.. I feel im getting somewhere at last lol.
Hello and welcome to AutismForums Im SmallGrayBox but most call me SGB for ease.
I know what you mean by "a mixed bag" in fact no one person with autism is the same as it is a 'Spectrum' so some may have one or some of the text book signs. Some may have a stilted formal voice and facial expressions that are absent. some like me, my have a wide range of vocal expressions (I love coying voices and impersonation people which some misunderstand as me being rude) but I have a non facial expression.
Some I know have excellent coordination but poor communicative stills while some preferring to talk on computer preferring to think about what they are going to say (msn and forums giving the person the time the thing before talking) but have good coordination and so on.
I have reasonable communication skills (but you'll notice I do tend to drift of track

) also many do tend to be a little behind in their development in relation to there peers. Im in my 40's and yet I get on with, make great friends with and and enjoy the company of those half my age.
I don't feel, look or age my age... and... why shout I

so I shouldn't let that be a problem because in many people on the autistic spectrum the brain matures at a slower rate but things do catch up. Its as if the brain wires its self over a slower time from past leant experiences. Then I was in Middle school a child psychologist had no idea of what to make of me and diagnosed me as having ESN or Educationally SubNormal :O Uh lol I can tell you that what many people on the spectrum lack in one learning aira it is more then made up for in another
Please enjoy the rest of the from, creat threads on points on interest, observations or add comments to existing post.
Oh and that text book part about aspies not understanding humour... I can tell you that's not fully true

my humour is very VERY... litteral and observational

for a good giggle in true aspie style you may like to read through this thread

Hello Donna, welcome to the forums.

That almost describes how I was as a child although I was abit more severe (from what I remember) due to a few learning difficulties and other related stuff. Thank you for joining, hope you enjoy
