I hate it when people use the word suffering when talking about Asperger's or autism (i.e. "he suffers from Asperger's").

Autism in any form is mainly a different way of thinking, so how are we suffering because of it? The only way we suffer is from the ignorance of most NTs (not all, but most).

Even if someone is low functioning, the only difference is IQ, and the symptoms will show more, but the point still stands. If that person is perfectly happy staring at something and flapping for a whole day (for example), then in what way are they suffering if they are enjoying themselves? Again, the only way they would suffer is because of NTs.

People suffer from cancer, people suffer from poverty. Those are things that need curing. But people do not suffer from autism/Asperger's (what's the point of AS being seperate anyway since it's the same as HFA?).
Good point, it does go on, you see it in articles, blogs, comments, forums that so and so suffers from autism/asperger's. It annoys me abit and another thing that does is when people say it's a disease, I mean what way could it possibly be a disease? We may find certain things hard but then again so does everyone, it's life and it's not "suffering".
Yeah, and even "autistic spectrum disorder" does this as "disorder" insinuates that something is wrong with us.
I feel sorry for the people who suffer from being NT!!!
We do not have a DISorder.. We are not ILL with Aspergers. Its not contagious!

I the only suffering I do experience is normally as of a result of others, thoughts less of just plain narrow minded.

when I'm doing what I do best as with interests with those who's personality I can get on with and them like wise with me. I'm quite happy being the way I am, act and do.

I've created coping strategies for dealing with most every day discomforts (crowds, meeting people at set times, routeing etc But I would never say I think of my self as suffering.

We all suffer one way or another, sound, changes, social complexities; even NT people have some of these too. We, because its part of our life and not say having to put up with the stress of a stressful job, but we life with this and meeting people, getting mixed messages, no understanding relationships is just the way of an Aspies life.

I try to avoid the most that which makes me more stressed, less stress less suffering Smile But of course you can't go through life with out a bit of stress so we just carry on and work our way around problems.
i dont suffer from autism i enjoy every minute of it...Smile
Most of my "suffering" is the result of the inconsiderate behavior of others.
Exactly TayorS! Reminds me if that quote: "People don't suffer from Asperger's, they suffer from the ignorance of others", though that might be slight paraphrasing.
I am glad to be AS, I wouldn't have it any other way, I wish the world would be more understanding at times, things would be better on so many different levels if the world just accepted people, not just people with Autism, but everyone.
Suffering, I cannot stand it. To say 'suffering' suggests that if it could be cured, we'd be better off. Now I don't know about you, but I'd openly reject a cure for my AS for I feel that it is this which makes me Lol. AS shapes my personality and if I were 'cured', I don't know who I'd be.

I like the quote; Autism isn't the tragedy. Ignorance is the tragedy.
